13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, a game developed by Vanillaware, is currently available for the Nintendo Switch in all regions. The adventure/tactical strategy game has a total of 13 playable characters, each with their own backstory and set of connections to navigate. They do, however, have one thing in common: they are all trying to keep their city safe from the Kaiju.
This is accomplished through the use of Sentinels, huge mechs with specialized skills that vary based on the pilot. Combat is a type of real-time with a pause in which you move forces about the battlefield, employing various skills, and finally protecting the Aegis from the invading hordes of enemies. Whenever you’re not engaged in combat, you’ll be rushing around different regions (and time periods) trying to figure out why the Kaiju are attacking. In other words, if you aren’t dealing with Men in Black, a talking cat, androids, or any number of other horrors.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is already available on the PlayStation 4 and has received a plethora of positive reviews. As of March 2021, it had shipped more than 400,000 units worldwide and sold more than 400,000 digital copies (with 200,000 units sold in Japan as of September 2021).
