Horizon Forbidden West is even more friendly than its predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn, thanks to a bevy of accessibility choices. It can be overwhelming for gamers who are unfamiliar with games like this because the game is such a large open-world experience with so many menus, weaponry, and controllers to figure out. People who want to turn items on like auto-heal, auto-sprint, or a toggle to make climbing locations more visible can use accessibility options. However, there is a tinnitus sound toggle in the accessibility menu, and gamers of Horizon Forbidden West would want to know what that implies.
What are Tinnitus Sounds
Tinnitus is a condition in which a person hears a loud ringing in their ears. This is related to the pain experienced after hearing a loud noise such as an explosion, a gunshot, or a loud buzz or alarm. Hearing loud ringing noises like the ones stated might cause bodily reactions in some people, and players will notice that tinnitus-like sounds can be heard when playing Horizon Forbidden West. Hearing ringing noises is inevitable when Aloy is fighting mechanical monsters with a variety of attacks and abilities. Also, because the majority of the game is spent in fighting using explosive devices like traps and the like, these could potentially cause tinnitus.
How to Turn off/on Tinnitus Sounds
Players can open the main menu in Horizon Forbidden West by pressing the Options button on their PS4/PS5 controller to toggle the Tinnitus Sounds option. Toggle over to Horizon’s Accessibility tab with R1 and look for the tinnitus option near the bottom, just above the Subtitles section.
The option description does not specify where the tinnitus sounds originate or how frequently they occur. However, if any players are sensitive to ringing noises or are playing Horizon Forbidden West with a headset, it may be preferable to turn them off. If you’re not sensitive to that kind of thing and are messing with the television speaker, you should be alright leaving the tinnitus sounds on as usual.
Because it’s impossible to predict when the tinnitus noises may appear in-game, gamers should avoid turning up the volume while playing.
Horizon Forbidden West is now available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
