While Codemasters Birmingham is concentrating on the Formula 1 series, Codemasters Cheshire has just become a part of Criterion Games in order to work on the development of the next installment in the Need for Speed series. However, that does not appear to be the whole scope of the racing titles that Electronic Arts is currently working on. According to a recent article published on Exputer, industry insider, Tom Henderson disclosed that Slightly Mad Studios is also working on the creation of Project CARS 4.
It is expected to return to its roots as a tough racing simulation despite its release on current-generation consoles as well as the PC. At this moment, it is anticipated that it will be available “sometime around 2024.”
Concerning the upcoming WRC title, which was initially rumored to be in the works back in March, development is proceeding as planned. Beginning in 2023 and continuing until 2027, the series is scheduled to get annual releases for consoles and personal computers (with Unreal Engine being used for development). Additionally, it would appear that preliminary preparations are being made for the launch of a mobile game within that time frame.
It has been rumored for some time that Codemasters has also been working on F1 23, concurrently with the development of F1 22. According to rumors, it will be a “next-gen” game that features significant engine improvements. In addition, it would appear that F1 WORLD will be implemented in order to expand upon this year’s F1 LIFE, with the possibility of private jets being alluded to.
Concerning Need for Speed Mobile, which recently had some gameplay footage leaked, the game’s map is said to be based on Need for Speed Heat; however, insiders say that there are some tweaks and that it’s not a “straight copy and paste.” It would appear that there is no story; rather, the game is a multiplayer open-world experience in which players can run across other racers from all over the world.
In addition, there has been no word regarding the Burnout series, but it would appear that GRID may be in “hot water” as a result of the underwhelming performance of GRID Legends. As always, make sure to stay tuned over the next few months for additional details and official announcements.
