It has been almost exactly a year since Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate was officially announced, and in the time since then, some brief details on its development have been shared by Square Enix. These details range from the fact that it is being built on Unreal Engine 5 to the confirmation of Orca as a support studio for the title. However, given the lack of specific information regarding the role-playing game (RPG), many people are curious about how long it will be before this situation will change.
It seems as though we’ll be waiting for some time yet. Yuji Horii, the director of Quest 12 and co-creator of the Dragon Quest series, provided a brief update on the game in a message that he posted on the occasion of The game Day 2022. In the message, Horii confirmed that while Square Enix is still working on the role-playing game (RPG), it will be some time before we hear more about it and that there will be plenty more Dragon Quest content released before we get to that point.
Horii stated, “We’re putting a lot of effort into developing Dragon Quest 12, but there will be plenty more Dragon Quest to hold you over until it’s ready”
Up to this point, there have been very few specifics about the game that have been confirmed. We are aware that it will alter the tried-and-true, turn-based combat system of the series, and that, unlike the previous mainstream entries in the series, it will have a simultaneous release across the globe whenever it is released. Both of these facts are known to us (though no platforms have been announced for it just yet).
The game is “being created taking into account the next 10 to 20 years of the Dragon Quest series,” as Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda has stated in the past.
As for what other Dragon Quest titles are now in the works, Dragon Quest Treasures and the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake are both in the process of being developed right now.
