With the release of Street Fighter 6, the series will receive a variety of new modern additions, including the World Tour, Battle Hub, and real-time commentary for battles. On top of that, according to newly disclosed details, its combat system has also been completely redesigned in comparison to its predecessor, with the Drive Gauge serving as its focal point. It is available at the beginning of each round, and using it results in the player suffering burnout and debuffs; however, as a result of this, the player’s health can regenerate more quickly.
Techniques include Drive Impact, which is essentially a powerful assault that absorbs an incoming hit and uses up one stock of Drive Gauge. This technique does, however, waste one stock of Drive Gauge. It results in a wall splat if it is executed on an opponent while they are in the corner (even if blocked). Drive Parry is an ability that can be purchased for half of the stock and in addition to deflecting an attack, it can also refill the Drive Gauge. It is possible to perform a perfect parry by parrying at the exact moment that an attack is about to land.
When two buttons of the same kind are pressed simultaneously, Overdrive is activated. This drains two Drive Gauge stocks and transforms a special move into an Overdrive Art, which is analogous to EX Special Moves from earlier games. The Drive Rush is a forward dash that can be performed after a Drive Parry or in the middle of a regular attack, and it can be stopped at any time. When compared to the latter, the former just requires one Drive Gauge stock while the latter requires three stocks. Finally, there is Drive Reversal, which is an ability that, after successfully preventing an assault, performs a counterattack at the cost of two stocks.
The introduction of a modern control scheme is yet another significant alteration that has taken place. The player does not need to memorize button combinations in order to use these in order to carry out special moves and combos, in addition to Super Arts. Traditional controls are still available for those who like them, and the button arrangement can be altered to suit individual preferences.
In 2023, Street Fighter 6 will be available for the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and personal computers.
