The market for battle royale games is so competitive that it is tough for less established developers to make a name for themselves. A good many of them are forced to concede defeat. This is the situation with the writers of the book Spellbreak.

Spellbreak is a free-to-play battle royale game that was released in the year 2020, and Proletariat has indicated that it would shortly stop providing maintenance for the game. Spellbreak was not successful in attracting a sufficient number of players, and as a result, it did not generate enough revenue through in-game microtransactions. As a consequence of this, it will be essential to power down the game servers. The occurrence of this will begin in the first few weeks of 2023.

“We wanted to make a spellcasting action game that was truly unique, with outstanding hero mobility and the ability to customize mage classes. I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone who joined us on our journey. Its team was able to improve our creative capabilities because of the ambitious nature of the Spellbreak project, which posed a significant design challenge. In the not-too-distant future, we are planning to produce new titles that will capitalize on the experience that we have learned here.

There has been some success with Spellbreak. According to Shacknews, the game is the finest free-to-play title that will be released in 2020. On Metacritic, the ratings for games on the Switch, PS4, PC, and XOne were all positive. The overall rating for the game was 7.9 out of 10. On Steam, the game has received as much as 85 percent positive feedback from customers. Nevertheless, as you can see, this alone was not sufficient to ensure success.
