It has been a couple of years since Sabotage Studio announced Sea of Stars, a retro turn-based role-playing game that takes place in the same universe as its previous game, the sidescrolling Metroidvania title The Messenger. In the time since then, it has generated plenty of buzz and anticipation, especially with each new showing looking quite promising. Sea of Stars is scheduled to be released sometime in 2019. On the other hand, the wait for them is going to be a little longer than what was originally anticipated.
Sabotage Studio confirmed that Sea of Stars would be released around the holiday season in 2022 in the previous year; however, the developer has recently indicated that the debut date will be pushed back. On Twitter, the company revealed that the new release date for Sea of Stars will be sometime in 2023; however, Sabotage is still considering the possibility of releasing a “playable slice” of the game in the year 2022.
According to a statement made by the game’s creator, “We can now affirm that Sea of Stars will be launched in 2023. Keeping in mind our two key priorities—quality of life for our crew and quality of the finished game—we have come to this conclusion.” “We realize that waiting is a significant request, and we would want to extend our sincere gratitude to our community for the enormous support and wonderful energies.” In the interim, we are considering our alternatives to ensure that everyone will have access to a slice that is playable this year.
There is no information available regarding the nature of this playable slice or whether or not it will actually be implemented. It would be a wonderful bonus if it did, of course, but it goes without saying that the primary focus for the developer is obviously going to be on finishing up the game itself. This is something that should be evident.
The PC version of Sea of Stars and the Nintendo Switch version have both been confirmed thus far.
