After taking a break from hosting its annual BlizzCon event for the past three years, Blizzard is eager to revive the convention in 2023. Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard, recently gave an interview to the Los Angeles Times in which he expressed interest in bringing the event back the following year.
“We previously announced that we are pausing BlizzCon while we rethink it for the future,” Ybarra said in the interview. “However, we do want to return to a live event that enables us to honor the community.” “We recently brought on April McKee as the new head of BlizzCon, and she is now working diligently on that strategy. We have decided that the BlizzCon will return in 2023.
Blizzard has since the year 2020 been holding their online-only BlizzConLine events to introduce new games and updates to existing titles like World of Warcraft. These events were initially put on pause because of the COVID-19 pandemic which began in the year 2020.
The most recent announcement made by Blizzard was for the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, which will be known as Dragonflight. In other circumstances, this news most likely would have been revealed during the BlizzCon event.
New gameplay elements, a new playable race, and a newly playable class were introduced by Blizzard as part of the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight expansion.
