Despite the fact that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty did not live up to expectations, CD Projekt RED is likely hoping that its upcoming expansion, Phantom Liberty, will begin to make up for the inadequacies that were present in the original game. In point of fact, the developer is putting quite an amount of money into the project’s development in order to guarantee that this will in fact be the situation.
During an interview with the Polish publication Parkiet, the investor relations manager for CD Projekt, Marek Bugdo, disclosed that the development budget for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is greater than that of any previous expansion the developer has produced in the past.
Bugdoł continued by saying, “We hope that the new adventures and characters will attract people who are already familiar with Cyberpunk, and we also hope that they will motivate many new players to start playing Night City.”
CD Projekt RED is no novice when it comes to the creation of massive expansions. For example, after the initial release of The Witcher 3, the developers released two paid add-ons called Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Both of these expansions, but particularly the latter, were significant additions to the game. Fans will be hoping that the apparent increase in Phantom Liberty’s financial resources is mirrored in the game’s overall quality, as this is what they will be basing their expectations on.
The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC versions of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty are scheduled to be released at some point this year.
