CD Projekt RED made the framerate situation even worse for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen on PC rather than fixing the performance issue that was present on that platform. Even on the PS5 and XSX, things don’t look too promising.
Early in the month of February, we published our first article on the issues with patch 4.01. During that time, we talked about the issue of The Witcher 3’s performance being worse on PC after the update was installed (despite the developers’ assurances that they will enhance the framerate).
It has been discovered, much to our dismay, that the issue plaguing The Witcher 3 Next-Gen also manifests itself on consoles. According to the findings of the investigation carried out by the editors of DigitalFoundry, the frame rate that the game gives in the Performance mode of version 4.01 is unsatisfactory. The issue is most noticeable on the Xbox Series X, where the framerate dropped from a level close to 60 frames per second to a level of approximately 50 frames per second (in the most demanding places). All of this was accomplished without any discernible drop in the game’s overall level of graphical quality.
What exactly is going on with version 4.01 of the PS5? When wandering about the city in the 5.00 version, the framerate on the Sony console in Performance mode is practically exactly the same as it is. Unfortunately, the situation can change during skirmishes as well as when exploring natural places that have a lot of foliage. On PS5, the framerate reduces from close to 60 frames per second to approximately 55 frames per second.
CD Projekt has already made the announcement that it would soon implement a hotfix to fix the framerate on PC, which is the platform about which gamers have the most complaints regarding framerate issues.
