Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann discussed upcoming plans for The Last of Us Season 2 in an interview with GQ. The Last of Us Part II is too enormous to be presented in a single story, according to the cosmos’ inventor and “Chernobyl” director.
After today’s The Last of Us Season 1 finale, fans will have to patiently wait until Naughty Dog adapts The Last of Us Part II. The series’ creators have not yet mentioned the beginning of production on the upcoming episodes, but Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have revealed a crucial point.
In reference to upcoming episodes, Craig Mazin stated once more that “there’s no way” Season 2 will cover The Last of Us Part II in its entirety, to which Druckmann responded, “It’s more than one season.”
Since that HBO is unlikely to want to produce The Last of Us Part II in its entirety, we may assume that ordering a third season is a given. The producers did not want to specify how many episodes would be required to develop the tale, though:
“You’ve noticed correctly that we won’t say how many [we need seasons to cover the events of The Last of Us Part II – ed. ed.]. But more than one is a fact.“
However, fans can count on a similar pattern of operation as in the adaptation of The Last of Us – you will see some new events that did not appear in Naughty Dog’s game:
“There are things that will be added and enhanced. There are some things that will change. Our goal is to do exactly what we did in the first season, which is to deliver a series that makes fans happy.“
The creators are aware that “they can’t make everyone happy,” but they still want to make many people happy. It is their responsibility to do this, and they are probably already getting ready to return to the “The Last of Us” set.
