Insider Gaming shared Sony’s plans yesterday. According to them, the PS5 would come out in 2023 with a removable hard drive, and the PS5 Pro could come out the following year. Tweaktown is still looking into what happened by looking at shipments from the Japanese headquarters.
Derek Strickland looked at the shipping records for Sony Interactive Entertainment and found some orders that stood out. The San Mateo, California, office of SIE America is about to get a shipment of strange devices from the SIE Japan branch (California). In the past few weeks, the company has sent the US branch 240 boxes that weigh a total of 2,609 kg.
This wouldn’t be strange, since the company has been regularly sending packages to different parts of the world ever since it had trouble getting semiconductors. However, the package was labeled “Development Kits for Interactive Entertainment Software.” So, the editor thinks this is the third and smallest shipment of devkits that the Japanese branch recently sent to the United States.
In recent months, the corporation has prepared three orders:
- 29.08.2022 – Sony sent 467 cartons weighing 4,497kg,
- 30.12.2022 – Sony sent 519 cartons weighing 4,927kg,
- 02/08/2023 – Sony shipped 240 cartons weighing 2,609kg.
The article makes it clear that this is only a small part of the shipments from Japan to the U.S. that were ordered in the past year, and we’re not sure if these are PS5 Pro developer kits.
Tweaktown thinks that Sony may have already made a new devkit that will let developers use more power from the hardware. This is based on the latest Insider Gaming reports. Strickland only says that these might be special versions of the PS5 Pro. After all, the shipment could be for regular models.
In light of recent rumors, the situation described seems very interesting. If Sony really plans to release PlayStation 5 Pro, it must give many studios devices that use more power. The PS4 Pro was another model of game console that made playing games much better.
