Resident Evil 4 Remake is praised by journalists from all over the world and is ranked as the second-best production of 2023, but we must not overlook a marginally less positive reception. Capcom has published a remake of the classic game on PS4 in addition to versions for current-gen platforms and PC; however, PS3 and PS2 owners may experience some issues with the game.
After some time had passed, Japanese developers revealed the creation of a horror game for the PlayStation 4. Resident Evil 4 Remake was initially announced for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and personal computers. The developer affirmed that it had tried the game on older consoles and could provide a positive PS4 experience.
When the remake premiered, some members of the community expected better, more enjoyable entertainment. You can discover references to poor optimization and underdeveloped graphics in the Reddit comments:
“The frame rate is noticeably lower on PS4. Enemies appear to have been animated in stop-motion while being filmed. Sadistic_Loser wrote, “The textures of the walls of some buildings are so low that it is very visible during the game.”
“On base PS4, the sniper rifle is essentially useless.” On my console, the frame rate dips to what appears to be single digits,” said user Andrei_LE, adding that he is unable to use one weapon as a result of the drops.”
The situation was also discussed by experts from Digital Foundry, who stress in their test that the PS4’s frame rate is unstable and frequently drops, while we will experience issues with character animations, poor lighting, or slower texture loading during the game. The results of Capcom’s efforts are impressive, but previous-generation consoles will notice a difference.
Players who complain about animation drops can be found below the released material:
“I was playing on a PS4, and I really wish they would at least offer you the option to lock the frame rate at 30. The first time, the frame rate made me ill because it can change so rapidly. Despite the technical difficulties, it’s still a wonderful game, and I had a great time playing it. Xeno Monkey.”
There are many more comments that are similar, but the most significant ones are those in which users highlight how “impressive” it is that Resident Evil 4 Remake was released on hardware that is ten years old and how well Capcom did their work.
