In response to the players’ conduct, Lily Gao made a statement. Ada Wong’s actor decided to defend herself from the trolls who said she “destroyed” Capcom’s creation in Resident Evil 4 Remake.
The most recent Resident Evil 4 Remake garnered high appreciation for Capcom’s superb job of updating the legendary Resident Evil game. There are many unfavorable reviews of the Japanese studio’s creation, yet players are thrilled to explore the revitalized environment.
Some fans think Lily Gao ruined the Capcom project because Ada Wong’s voice actress, the star of movies like “Slip,” “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City,” “A good way to Die,” and “The Expanse,” chose to react and release a statement, failed.
Since Lily Gao is the first Asian to play Ada Wong, the creators have chosen an “authentic representation” for the first time, according to Lily Gao. The actress made the point that viewers are once again choosing to be critical due to racial and sexist remarks; in her perspective, it is time to put an end to the incorrect portrayal of Asian women.
I consider it a privilege to be the first actress of Asian ancestry to play Ada in a Resident Evil video game, and I will always be appreciative to our producer and director for choosing to be true to themselves. Unfortunately, the sensation of “I don’t fit in here” surfaced with the game’s release, which is something I am all too familiar with. Although criticism is to be expected, it’s not the first time that performers of color have come under racial and sexist criticism just for working on a project. Casting that isn’t true to the community just contributes to the negative perception that we want to reflect. It’s time to stop focusing solely on the sexualization, eroticization, and mystique surrounding the Asian female stereotype and to make room for all Asian women. Ada in my life is a survivor. She is benevolent, just, smart, and humorous. She defies stereotypes and is unpredictable and tough.
Lily Gao reacted to the neighborhood, but it’s unclear whether this will result in any changes. I have no doubt that those who have attacked the actress thus far will do so in the future. It is still to be hoped that the celebrity’s remarks will sway at least some of the attitudes.
