Arkane Austin, the company that made Redfall, has confirmed that its planned vampire-hunting adventure will only be available on Xbox Series X|S at launch, with a Performance mode option coming in a later update. This means that the game will always run at 30 frames per second because a high resolution is more important. On Xbox Series X, the resolution will be 4K, and on Xbox Series S, it will be 1440p.

Redfall is one of the few modern console games that doesn’t have the ability to switch between “Quality” and “Performance” games when it starts up. Gotham Knights came out on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S last year with only a Quality Mode choice, and in 2023, its frame rate is still capped at 30fps on console. Deathloop, which was made by Arkane Lyon, did have Quality and Performance modes when it came out on PS5, and it still had those choices when it came out on Xbox Series X|S a year later.
Usually, Performance mode is better for fast-paced shooters, but Redfall’s huge area could be one of the reasons why resolution is more important than frame rate. In an earlier interview, the game’s creative director Harvey Smith also said that it was hard to make the game because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the frequent power outages that happened while it was being made.
As the release date gets closer, more information about Redfall is starting to come out. Arkane has announced that the co-op vampire shooter will launch on PC with the anti-piracy tool Denuvo. Right now, you can enter a sweepstakes to win a custom Redfall Xbox Series X console.
In a peek of Redfall for GameSpot, Tamoor Hussain said, “Redfall continues this process of looking back and coming up with new ideas. It’s probably the most different from what we expect from an Arkane game.” “But after playing the game for a while, it was clear that behind the open world, first-person shooting, and loot, there are systems, mechanics, and ways to play that are clearly Arkane.”
