A new survey from GameSpot’s parent business, Fandom, is now out. It shows how the video game market is doing right now and gives information about the people who play games.

The Inside Gaming report from Fandom is based on a poll of 15,000 Fandom users and shows a number of important things. One of these is that the number of people who play games has gone up in every age group, medium, and type over the past five years. In the study, 45 percent of gamers who were asked said they were spending more time than ever playing games.

The study also found that older gamers spend more time playing games each week than teens and people in Gen Z. Millennials, on the other hand, are very interested in games; 52% of them say that games are their top leisure interest.

One of the most important things I learned from the Inside Gaming report was that 75% of people said they eat and drink while playing games. I hope it’s not pizza, though, because that can get very messy very quickly.

Another important result was that parents and guardians are becoming more aware of how important it is to play games with their kids. When asked, parents and guardians were 77% more likely to agree that gaming helps kids learn important life skills and 38% more likely to agree that gaming helps kids learn to work together and work as a team.

The Inside Gaming study also found the following:

    • People said that “game quality” was the most important thing to them when looking for new games, followed by “storyline and plot” and “design and visuals.”
    • Younger groups, on the other hand, said that “cultural hype” was more important.
    • When people were asked what made them want to play games, stress release, relaxation, and escaping reality came out on top.
