Bethesda seems to have added the controversial DRM Denuvo to the PC version of Ghostwire: Tokyo as part of a recent update. Even though it was caught by DSOGaming, Bethesda hasn’t yet stated that Denuvo copy protection will be added. On the Steam page for the game, however, it now says that it uses Denuvo.
By changing the number of CPU cores the game used, DSOGaming was able to find the controversial copy protection software. After five changes, the game showed a message that said “authentication error,” which proved that the DRM was there.
The latest update for Ghostwire: Tokyo, which was called the “Spider’s Thread” update, added a lot of new material and features to bring back players who might have stopped playing after the game was first released. Because the update could bring in a lot of new players, Bethesda probably saw it as a chance to make more sales, so they added Denuvo copy protection to help boost sales.
Ghostwire: Tokyo has also been added to Xbox Series X/S, along with the Spider’s Thread update. Check out our review of the Xbox Series X/S version of Ghostwire: Tokyo to learn more about the latest version of the game.
