More bang for your buck is usually better, but with the market becoming swamped with large games that demand hundreds of hours of engagement from its players, there’s a growing number of individuals who see games with longer runtimes as a negative.
Horizon Forbidden West, which will be released later this year, appears to be attempting to strike a balance. Mathijs de Jonge, the action RPG’s director, stated to Gamepro that the game’s main story will be roughly the same length as Horizon Zero Dawn’s main story. While he didn’t provide any specific numbers, that should mean a runtime of roughly 30 hours, depending on how much side content you do.
De Jonge does say that those who want to complete the game will have to devote more time to it than they did to the first, which isn’t surprising. Guerrilla has made much of the improved quality of side quests and optional content in Horizon Forbidden West, so perhaps this will encourage players to spend as much time as possible with the game.
Guerrilla and Sony have been building up the anticipation for Horizon Forbidden West’s release with new videos, gameplay details, images, and more. It’ll be available on PS5 and PS4 on February 18th, so those eager to get in won’t have to wait long.
