The yearly convention known as BlizzCon that Blizzard Entertainment hosts to demonstrate its new video games has been on hiatus for the past few years. It was canceled in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic, but it made a comeback in 2021 as an internet show. The latter was not held due to Blizzard’s desire to “reimagine what a BlizzCon event of the future could look like.” This decision was made the previous year.
Activision Blizzard has been accused of committing sexual misbehavior, causing wrongful deaths, and engaging in discriminatory practices, all of which undoubtedly did not improve the situation. On the other hand, the business has been discussing the possibility of bringing it back in 2023.
Since then, President Mike Ybarra has responded to the questions posed at BlizzCon through Twitter, writing, “Ok, ok…yes, I see all the BlizzCon questions.” You may expect to hear more over the next week to two weeks. We have a lot to share and celebrate together, and we are really excited about it. I literally cannot wait.”
As a consequence of this, the games published by Blizzard have received numerous updates, both on their own and during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase held the previous year. The release date for Diablo 4 is slated for June 6th, and on May 10th, there will be a live stream that focuses on Seasons, cosmetics, and the Battle Pass. Overwatch 2 is now in the middle of Season 4, and there has been no discussion on future content. The World of Warcraft expansion known as Dragonflight also often receives new content patches.
What else might BlizzCon possibly have to offer, other than the reintroduction of the physical event? The passage of time will tell, so stay tuned for further information in the meanwhile.
