A number of significant showcase events, like the Xbox Games Showcase, Summer Game Fest, Ubisoft Forward, and others, have been confirmed for the upcoming weeks, and new leaks have increased the likelihood that a PlayStation Showcase will take place later this month. But in the midst of all of this, what is Nintendo working on? Can we anticipate any substantial new announcements from the Japanese firm in the near future given that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is scheduled to arrive this week and is likely to be the year’s biggest release?

That doesn’t seem to be the case, though. That’s according to VGC’s Andy Robinson, who recently tweeted to confirm recent rumors regarding the aforementioned PlayStation Showcase and Konami’s alleged PS5 exclusivity deals with Sony. Robinson also said he isn’t “expecting Nintendo to do anything,” implying that the company won’t be holding its customary (for the most part) annual June Nintendo Direct this year.

This is consistent with what recent reports about the company’s release timeline have said. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which is scheduled to arrive soon, is reportedly going to be Nintendo’s last significant first-party title for the Switch, despite rumors that development on a Switch replacement is already starting. Of course, games like Pikmin 4 are still in development, but according to rumors, the company is saving all of its other major flagship releases for its next generation.

It’s not altogether shocking that a Direct would not be in the works for the near future if that is the case and Nintendo isn’t going to be prepared to discuss the Switch successor and its titles in June.

I also heard a Sony Showcase is happening in the usual late May / early June window, with Konami stuff included. I’m not expecting Nintendo to do anything
