60 staff from Ubisoft’s offices in Newcastle, UK, and North Carolina have been let go. The company’s customer service division appears to have been the primary target of the layoffs. Since then, workers have confirmed the layoffs on Twitter, with some saying they happened without warning or planning.
The company explained in a statement that it is trying to make some organizational adjustments so that it can concentrate on providing players with continuous service.
Ubisoft stated in the announcement, “Our Customer Relation Center team is evolving our organization to focus on where we can have a significant impact while remaining steadfast in our commitment to consistently support our players anywhere in the world.” “We estimate that 60 team members from our offices in Cary, North Carolina in the US and Newcastle in the UK could be impacted due to organizational changes.”
With some of its games, Ubisoft has experienced significant problems. A battle royale game based on the Splinter Cell premise was reportedly in development by the business back in April, but it was cancelled “weeks” before it was scheduled to be shown.
The Division 2, The Division: Heartland, and several of the business’s other games, on the other hand, have a future that has been made clear by the corporation. Additionally, the business has been developing the multiplayer shooter XDefiant, which it promises will receive support “for a long time.”
NEW: Ubisoft confirms 60 people laid off across its North Carolina and Newcastle, UK offices.
The company announced earlier this year it was aiming to cut headcount “naturally” over the next 12 months as it struggles with game delays and sales. https://t.co/VZaZ6xFgRi pic.twitter.com/LM43qMLXhM

I (and about 60 other amazing people) were laid off today with no notice. I’m divorced, living alone with a mortgage, and have a daughter who I love and support, so if any of you have any leads, please reach out. Thank you so much. <3

I just got let go from my job at Ubisoft in a massive layoff out of nowhere. With no indication or preparation.
I really just don’t know how to feel. If anyone has any job leads on game audio stuff, or just game tech stuff let me know. I’m in a weird place rn lol
