A new report has surfaced regarding Star Wars KOTOR Remake. Work on the project has been going on for several years, but due to Sony’s negative opinion on one of the presentations, the entire production was to go to a completely different team.
Already this week, we reported on the issues with Star Wars KOTOR Remake . The game supposedly may never debut, so the project was investigated by the 100% Star Wars editorial staff. The team decided to present the “truth” behind the awaited adventure.
According to the information provided, Aspyr received a license for Star Wars KOTOR Remake in 2018 because Lucasfilm warmly welcomed the studio’s offer. The company created a whole team to prepare the refresh – the team included veterans with extensive experience. The developers even managed to hire creators who developed the original.
Aspyr raised $30 million and pre-production began in 2019 – however, the work took a little too long due to the global pandemic. In 2021, the company was acquired by Embracer, which added another $70 million to the budget.
In the next step, Sony became the project partner, which apparently had a lot to say about Star Wars KOTOR Remake. The developers have even planned the next projects in the series.
Full production began in 2022, and it was originally planned to launch the game in mid-2023 – the authors could celebrate the 20th anniversary of KOTOR in this way. More realistic forecasts heralded the premiere in 2024 or in 2025.
Everything looked very good until Aspyr showed a fragment of the game from Lucasfilm and Sony in mid-2022 – the former company was supposed to welcome the project with enthusiasm, but the PlayStation producer expected something else. The game wasn’t “cinematic enough”.
It was probably because of this opinion that some of the management from Aspyr was fired, and this is where the problems really began – 100% of Star Wars completely disagree with the opinion of Jason Schreier, who believes that work on Star Wars KOTOR Remake has already been completed suspended.
Ultimately, Star Wars KOTOR Remake was to go to Saber, and the developers from Aspyr lived in ignorance – it turned out that almost the entire studio (except for the writers) was removed from the game.
Saber, however, did not decide to fully reset the project, but simply continued to work. However, Aspyr does not understand why the position went to Saber Portugal, which has no experience in such ambitious projects. During this time, as many as 70 people from the 200-person team left Aspyr.
According to the shared opinions – Star Wars KOTOR Remake is to offer combat similar to Final Fantasy VII, which Sony didn’t quite like, but the biggest problem is the graphics – the company was supposed to expect a much nicer (movie) game.
Star Wars KOTOR Remake will not offer many novelties compared to the original – the story is supposed to be “identical to the original”, but the developers have “significantly” expanded some characters and tasks. Even some of the voice actors who worked on the original returned to work on the project.
