Following Bethesda’s debut of Starfield, there is a lot of anticipation surrounding the ship customisation, combat, randomised landscapes, and character creation. Its titles are infamous for having significant problems at launch, which is another worry. But according to Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios, Starfield has the “fewest bugs of any Bethesda game ever shipped.”
Speaking to Giant Bomb (transcription by VGC), Booty said, “We have an awful lot of people internally playing Starfield, working with Todd and the team. I see bug counts, and just by the numbers if it shipped today, Starfield would already have the fewest bugs of any Bethesda game ever shipped.” Which is nice, but again, the day-one experience will always differ.
In regards to Bethesda, Booty continued, “The crew has grown. They have experience with Elder Scrolls, Skyrim, and Fallout. This game’s ship date was far earlier after the acquisition was finalized than the one we had initially planned for Starfield. Todd and the team were seated with us, and we explained why we wanted to give them the time.
CEO of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer remarked, “I think Matt mentioned we have every QA person in our entire company playing Starfield right now, looking at bug counts, looking at the quality of where we are. From my perspective, the good part about what we displayed today is that it was a game. That is the game that we have been playing for a while.
On September 6, Starfield will be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC; the Premium Edition will provide early access beginning on September 1 and access to Shattered Space, the first story expansion, whenever it becomes available. Todd Howard, the director, just stated that for consistency’s sake, it is restricted to 30 FPS on Xbox Series X/S. Although you’ll need a solid-state drive and 125 GB of free installation space, the PC requirements aren’t overly onerous. In the meantime, stay tuned for additional information.
