A long gameplay walkthrough for the upcoming open world action-adventure game Star Wars Outlaws was also debuted by Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment soon after Star Wars Outlaws’ introduction at the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this week, which caught many people off guard. Currently, the publisher has included developer commentary to the most recent tutorial, adding more context and knowledge. The video is below.
To begin with, fresh information has been made available about some of the important persons who will travel with the main character Kay Vess. Of course, she has Nix, her faithful canine friend, who the game’s creators claim is a Merqaal. Nix is a “rare and exotic” species that was specifically designed for the game, and the whereabouts of its home planet is “a mystery”.
As demonstrated in the gameplay sample, Nix will also assist Kay in the game in a variety of ways, such as disengaging guards, attacking when directed, assisting with riddles, bringing back weaponry (similar to Chorizo in Far Cry 6), aiding with the discovery of secrets, and more.
The ND-5 robot, another one of Kay’s buddies, made a significant appearance in the most recent episode. He is a BX commando droid that the Separatists formerly constructed, and due to his involvement in the Clone Wars, he is very much a battle-hardened individual. He now works as an enforcer for the underworld and teams up with Kay for a significant, risky task that they view as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Of course, there will be a lot of planets and locales that players will travel to in Star Wars Outlaws. Toshara, a moon described as a “hive of underworld activity,” was conceived and created by Massive Entertainment in close collaboration with Lucasfilm. It includes everything from its vegetation and wildlife to its unique culture and gameplay activities. The dusty rock that the recent demo was set on is Toshara.
Players will also discover a variety of towns and cities on every planet that will operate as centers of activity, such as Jaunta’s Hope on Toshara or the corrupt and lawless capital of the moon, Mirogana. According to Massive, each planet in the game will have a “distinct profile,” meaning that in addition to looking different, each one will also have its own custom story, distinctive animals and habitat, and more.
According to Massive, every orbital zone would have a unique identity, suggesting that space will exhibit a similar level of variability. Players will be able to engage in larger-scale combat with bigger ships while in space in addition to small-scale dogfights (as seen in recent games), and exploration will be encouraged because there are allegedly many surprises hidden in space. It has also been established that travel from planet to space (and vice versa) will be smooth. Click here to read more about that.
A Reputation system will be heavily involved, and choice and consequence mechanics will also play a significant part. This system will allow you to change your reputation with various syndicates and factions based on your work choices and other important decisions. If Kay’s reputation with certain factions is high enough, the “most lucrative opportunities” in the game will become available to her. On the other hand, those you don’t get along with well will prevent you from participating in particular tasks.
Though there are few concrete specifics regarding growth mechanics, the developers have stated that Kay and her blaster, along with other skills and gadgets, will develop and advance throughout the course of the game. The developers claim that additional modules and upgrades for the blaster in particular will provide you “radically” different options for how to handle situations and can be equipped. While it is obviously best employed in combat, it is also said to as a “central and versatile tool” that can be used for purposes aside from assaulting adversaries directly.
