In recent years, PlayStation has made extensive efforts to diversify its business beyond gaming. While these efforts have been visible and audible in areas like PC releases, live service games, and TV and film adaptations, PlayStation has yet to take similar actions with regard to its mobile gaming initiatives.
Although it appears there has also been a setback there, Sony’s announcement that it had appointed Nicola Sebastiani, a former Apple executive, to lead their PlayStation Mobile branch, was a significant step forward. Sebastiani has left the company and is no longer in charge of the mobile sector, according to MobileGamer.biz. According to the story, he quit the organization in order to “pursue a new, undisclosed opportunity”.
Early in 2021, Sony stated that it wanted to expand its audience to “millions of gamers” outside the boundaries of consoles by bringing “PlayStation’s most well-known franchises” to mobile devices.
In order to support its ongoing mobile efforts, Sony bought Savage Game Studios last year. The mobile team is putting the finishing touches on “a new, unannounced AAA mobile live service action game.”
