Rockstar Games now confirmed what has been suspected for years in a recent tweet, that the next Grand Theft Auto is in the works. “With every new project, our goal is to greatly exceed what we’ve previously delivered,” it said. We’re happy to report that work on the second installment of the series is well started.”
Of course, it’s anyone’s guess when we’ll get any concrete details. “We look forward to releasing more as soon as we are ready,” the developer stated in a follow-up tweet. “Please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.” It expressed gratitude to fans and stated that it “cannot wait to go into the future with you!”
Reputable sources such as Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier and insider Tom Henderson have provided some insights on what fans might expect. According to Schreier, the sequel will be a “moderately-sized” game with plans to add and grow it via post-launch updates in April 2020. Last year, Henderson announced that it will be set in a modern-day Vice City with many characters, one of which would be a woman.
Other trustworthy sources, such as Rockstar Magazine, have indicated that development has been plagued by problems. Following the departure of co-founder Dan Houser in early 2020, it was purportedly relaunched, but modifications to the gameplay and narrative have been apparent since 2019.
Of course, take everything with a grain of salt and check back in the coming months, if not years, for further information.
