The creators of Cyberpunk 2077 focused on gameplay from the hero’s perspective, which caused mixed opinions among players, but ultimately the developers defended their decision by offering fans a good experience. However, the studio cannot currently confirm what the situation with Cyberpunk 2 Project Orion will be.
CD Projekt RED has developed three adventures in the universe of Andrzej Sapkowski, showing the entire hero – the third-person perspective was very suitable for the world of The Witcher, but in the case of Cyberpunk, the decision was made to use FPP.
Paweł Sasko, Cyberpunk’s quest director, confirmed during the Investor Day that the company does not regret this decision, as it brought many positives.
It’s a great question, but we have no regrets on our part. I was one of the people who started working on the first prototypes of this system for Cyberpunk using The Witcher technology. We wanted Cyberpunk to have its own identity and be noticeable as something different. Nowadays, games are sold through YouTube, Twitch and screenshots. It is a way to show players your identity and individuality. The first-person perspective helped Cyberpunk develop this identity in a big way.
The first-person camera was “the main characteristic of Cyberpunk” and at the same time allowed developers to “change the way of thinking” in some way. Creators could escape from routine, which in many cases destroys creativity.
This does not mean, however, that the next part of Cyberpunk must also be presented from the perspective of the hero. Cyberpunk Project Orion is in such an early stage of production that basically… no decision has been made whether to choose TPP or FPP.
