Already in 2022, we saw the first trailer of Tekken 8 , and then Bandai Namco very quickly moved to full promotion of the show. We received more trailers and could prepare for the premiere, but the Japanese decided to make a surprising move.
We’ve been able to play Street Fighter 6 since June, and Mortal Kombat 1 debuted in September, but many players expected Tekken 8 to premiere at the end of 2023 – after all, the Japanese have been promoting the production very intensively throughout the year.
Bandai Namco, however, gave space to other fighting games, as confirmed by Katsuhiro Harada. The father of the Tekken series mentioned in his latest episode of Harada’s Bar that the premiere of Tekken 8 was postponed so that the game’s debut would not conflict with other fighting games.
The Japanese recalls that he pressed for the premiere to be delayed by six months , which, considering the debut of Tekken 8 in January, suggests an interesting situation – could the fighting game have been released as early as June? In this situation, we would witness a very direct fight between two large IPs.
However, the creators were given an additional half a year to complete all work on Tekken 8, which should significantly affect the quality of the fighting game. As you know, each additional month helps developers eliminate recent errors.
