After the release of Phantom Liberty and a major update to the futuristic adventure in Night City, the Polish studio is working more and more dynamically on new projects – including the new installment of Cyberpunk. It turns out that the creators already have a plan…
We have known for a long time that CD Projekt is focusing on the development of two main brands and wants to create a completely new IP, and specific teams have already started work. However, we know that Project Orion – the next part set in the Cyberpunk universe – needs many more years, and is currently at the concept stage. This does not mean, however, that the authors no longer have a certain vision.
In a recent interview for PC Gamer, Igor Sarzyński, narrative director of Cyberpunk 2077, referred to certain plans of the studio regarding the development of a futuristic series taking place in Night City. The Polish studio wants Cyberpunk to experience a certain evolution – like in individual parts of The Witcher.
Consider the Witcher games and how much they have changed with each installment. We want a similar evolution here.
Sarzyński emphasized that CD Projekt RED had to take care of several elements of Cyberpunk 2077 to make them work as satisfactorily as possible. The last huge update 2.0 is a clear example of how many aspects of the game have been modified. Currently, developers want to focus on a consistent, immersive experience:
Cyberpunk 2077 was our first venture into a futuristic sci-fi world with tons of new gameplay mechanics, narrative tone, themes and art direction. Some things worked almost straight out of the box, such as the graphics, city design, music, interactive scene system, game style. Other aspects required more time, such as character progression, NPC interactivity, and optimization. It’s natural: you can’t get everything right on the first try. Now that all the game elements are iterated and working well, our focus will be on connecting them even more tightly and creating a cohesive, completely immersive experience.
Let us remind you that the studio is not only working on Cyberpunk, but also developing the next part of The Witcher – difficulties related to the premiere of the 2020 production also significantly influenced the approach to this project.
