Do you still remember Silent Hill: The Short Message? The game has still not been announced, but as it turns out – the title is apparently still in development and may hit the market in the future. The Australian equivalent of PEGI presented new information about the game.
Silent Hill: The Short Message now contains more detailed information in its database thanks to the Australian Classification Board. Because the game deals with some sensitive subjects, the rating is crucial, which is why ACB gave such detailed information about the game.
There are “strong themes of suicide” in Silent Hill: The Short Message, and the production itself is a psychological horror based on exploration in which players have the opportunity to control a girl. The action takes place in modern times, specifically in Germany.
The Australian Classification Board confirms that the main character is Anita, who explores an apartment building called “The Villa” to find out what happened to her friend. During the adventure, we can enter the bathroom, where there is a bathtub filled with bloody water, tiles stained with blood, and a bloody razor blade lying on the sink. After the examination, the heroine experiences flashbacks.
In a first-person cutscene, someone yells, “You’re to blame for everything! Negative things occur as a result of YOU! then a razor-wielding hand appears in the picture. Horizontal scars on the character’s wrist are apparent as the left arm of the character enters frame. Before the razor even gets close to the character’s wrist, the scene switches to a dark screen. The hero’s left arm is seen in the picture below with both ancient and fresh scars.
There are even specifics about a certain character in the details, and Anita has to confront the situation because she fears that she, too, may commit suicide. I haven’t given all the specifics here because the Australian Classification Board reveals very specific information about the plot.
However, the creators want not only to surprise with events, but also to educate – in Silent Hill: The Short Message there will be specific boards so that people in need can go to specialists.
Throughout the game, sequences showing suicide and self-harm are followed by black panels with white lettering advising players to get help if they think they might commit suicide or self-harm, as well as to lend a hand to others who appear to be in need.
