Larian Studios is still striving hard towards the goal of releasing the latest installment of Baldur’s Gate on current generation Xboxes in 2023. The efforts seem to be heading in a really good direction, as evidenced by one of Swen Vincke’s entries.
An experienced studio faces considerable adversity as it works to release its latest RPG on Microsoft consoles. Although we have known for many months that the greatest difficulties concern Xbox Series S and its memory, which effectively limits the team’s capabilities, developers remain in contact with Microsoft. It seems quite likely that we are getting closer to the debut – at the end of October there was a lot of talk about production tests.
Another fascinating detail regarding the process of modifying the game to fit the specifications of the smallest Xbox was recently given by Swen Vincke from Larian Studios. It turns out that experts were able to lower the load on the RAM and VRAM in the XSS port by up to 34% and 10%, respectively, in the last few weeks.
Baldur’s Gate 3 required 5.2 GB of RAM and roughly 3.5 GB of VRAM at the beginning of September, but the team can now boast of results of 4.7 GB and 2.3GB, according to graphs posted by the thread creator. Meanwhile, the developer made it clear that this kind of work might improve the game’s status on other platforms, indicating the need for more optimization.
