We have heard a lot of unsettling rumors in recent weeks about Bungie’s state of affairs, and in the meanwhile, more and more gamers are abandoning Destiny 2. The production is becoming less popular, which might cause serious problems for the creators and PlayStation.
Bungie announced terrible financial results and let go of almost 100 workers. We didn’t have to wait long for the announcement of the creators, who candidly acknowledged that they had lost the faith of the players. The corporation was meant to postpone the launch of the anticipated expansion and the new production.
Though some consumers have opted to cancel pre-orders for the expansion in light of the current news, the studio is optimistic that the forthcoming Destiny 2 expansion will help reverse the tide. But it seems that the team’s issues are far from over.
As it turns out, over the last 30 days, the average number of players active in Destiny 2 on Steam was 34,328, and at its peak there were 59,076 users. Theoretically, the presented results are quite good, however, it must be emphasized that these are the lowest statistics for the title since its release on Steam in October 2019, and although we could regularly observe some drops in activity (e.g. between seasons), they were never that significant.
At its peak, Bungie’s title gathered over 316,000 daredevils on the platform at the same time.
However, it is worth noting that recent reviews of Destiny 2 on the platform are “mixed” (53% positive reviews), although overall the game has “very positive” (81%) reviews. Destiny 2 is already a few years old (the title was originally released in 2017), but thanks to engaging and well-thought-out expansions and solid content, the production’s popularity has remained at a very interesting level.
Because Bungie is regarded as a pioneer in the games-as-a-service space, PlayStation chose to acquire the company. Along with working on their own projects, developers at PlayStation Studios will assist other teams in producing web series.
