We are currently in the middle of October, and the most significant releases are scheduled to take place in the next several weeks. This includes Alan Wake 2, which was developed by Remedy Entertainment and will be released on October 27 (after being pushed back to avoid direct competition with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2). There will be more than 20 hours of gameplay available, and there will also be two expansions available after the first release.
In addition to that, according to Sam Lake, creative director of Remedy, the survival horror game will also receive free downloadable content (DLC). Lake made these remarks at the EGX Theatre (MP1st provided the transcription): “We’ve spoken about exciting stuff, both with music and with live action. When it comes to describing any of the DLC content, we haven’t really gotten very far yet. The actual larger paid DLCs that we have identified are Night Springs, which may seem familiar, and Lake House. Both of these DLCs may be purchased separately.
But other than that, we will soon be releasing some free DLC drops. They are fairly substantial as well, and I anticipate that we will be discussing them in greater depth pretty quickly once the game has been released. However, all of that content will be provided for free to everyone who purchases the game.
Uncertainty surrounds the nature of this free downloadable content, although there is a possibility that it may be a supernatural third-person shooter like the developer’s previous title, Control. Jesse Faden, the game’s protagonist, was given free new clothes and access to a rogue-like mode called Expeditions, but players had to pay for the game’s two story expansions, The Foundation and AWE.
The release of Alan Wake 2 is scheduled for the following week on the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms via the Epic Games Store. According to Game Director Kyle Rowley, the decision to exclusively release the game digitally at a cost of $60 on consoles and $50 on PC assures that there will be more time for polishing.
