When did Frictional last release a subpar horror title? That means never. The anticipation for the upcoming Amnesia: The Bunker, which promises to enhance and build upon the survival horror series’ concept in a number of intriguing ways, is therefore not surprising. However, it appears that we will have to wait a little longer than expected.
The development team had “encountered multiple rare crashes that are very difficult to identify, reproduce, and thereby, also fix,” according to Amnesia: The Bunker creative lead Fredrik Olsson in a video message posted by the studio on Twitter announcing the delay to June 6. The alternative, he continued, would effectively be crunch, which is, in his words, “simply not something we do here at Frictional”.
In order to make The Bunker the best game it can be, Frictional has been working really hard, according to Olsson. “When I say that we are extremely excited with what we’ve accomplished with this game, I believe I speak for the entire team. It’s all coming together so beautifully. We now have the gameplay, the artwork, the animations, the setting, and the story. Everything is really coming together, and we are eager to release this and learn what people think of it.
“However, I’m here to deliver some bad news since we recently had to make the decision to postpone the game once more, this time for two weeks. The new launch date will be June 6 because we won’t make it on May 23. While going through the certification process, we came across a number of rare crashes that were exceedingly challenging to locate, duplicate, and consequently, also fix. We will not be able to arrive in time. Naturally, the staff could have been asked to work weekends or nights, but at Frictional, that’s just not something we do.
The release of Amnesia: The Bunker has previously been postponed. The game was originally scheduled to debut in March, but was postponed just before that date to May 16, and then Frictional postponed it even more a week later.
Despite the fact that gamers will have to wait a little longer to play Amnesia: The Bunker, they will soon have the opportunity to do so. Olsson stated in his message that a demo will be made available “soon” on Steam. The demo will debut on May 22. Frictional confirmed this in a separate post that was released on Twitter.
Frictional just unveiled a 10-minute gameplay trailer for The Bunker, showcasing the game’s survival horror gameplay features, creepy and persistent stalker enemy, and more.
For the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, and PC, Amnesia: The Bunker is currently under development.
