For the Apex Legends series, Respawn Entertainment has big ideas. The developers have built a third studio to aid in the expansion of the still-developing universe as they plan to continue working on the game over the coming years.
The release of Apex Legends in 2019 altered the plans of Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment, and likely even the entire industry, as the game’s creators enjoyed enormous success. The team has ambitions for this IP because the shooter continues to draw a lot of attention.
A third Apex Legends development studio has been established by Respawn Entertainment, and Ryan Burnett will be in charge of the group. He is a very seasoned developer who formerly served as Epic Games’ director of engine production and spent 14 years at Raven Software where he contributed to the Call of Duty franchise.
The Wisconsin studio will work with groups from Los Angeles and Vancouver; the new group will let programmers try out fresh ideas. To keep things exciting for players, developers must constantly supply fresh content and require additional help.
The Apex Legends brand can be grown for more than 15 years, according to Steven Ferreira, director of Apex Legends, who spoke with GamesIndustry.biz about this.
“The health of the team is absolutely our top priority because we are in this for the long haul. We believe in Apex as a franchise that will be around for 10, 15 years or more, and we’re excited for that to happen. To do that, we can’t just publish all the content upfront, burn out, and not be ready for it in the long run.“
Respawn Entertainment realizes they have to take care of the team as Apex Legends has a great future ahead of it.
