Only two weeks remain until the release of Apex Legends Season 17: Arsenal, and today, developer Respawn Entertainment provided players with a gameplay trailer to preview the new season’s content. A new POI that looks to have been constructed on World’s Edge stole the show, despite the fact that the new legend Ballistic received the majority of the trailer’s attention.
Over the weekend, the official Apex Legends Twitter account briefly changed its display name to “Apex Games Museum,” publishing a series of cryptic tweets that culminated in a two-minute glimpse at the new POI, which appears to have updated the Fragment East and Fragment West areas of World’s Edge. But the Arsenal gameplay trailer had plenty of other unexpected elements, such as an additional look at Ballistic’s odd abilities and a redeploy balloon being used in a manner that had never before been seen.
The specific modifications being made to Ranked Mode are still unknown because the trailer only mentioned them without providing any further information. However, we do know that a new Weapons Mastery system will be added to Apex Legends. Each weapon looks to have six levels in the system, and finishing each level yields a different reward. Dedicated daily players that plow through combat passes and LTE reward tracks at breakneck speed, have already maxed out their account level, and are eager for something else to grind for outside Ranked Mode awards will probably welcome this new feature. (Although slogging for Ranked rewards might be more appealing, if these unnamed upgrades to Ranked Mode are an improvement.)
However, Ranked Mode isn’t the only thing getting a revamp this season; a significant portion of the gameplay trailer is set on the Firing Range, which is also getting a makeover. This suggests that the unreleased “Intro to Apex” tutorial trailer that dataminers discovered last year might finally make an appearance in the game. Additionally, we’d love to see the addition of Survival Items to the Firing Range, especially in light of the gameplay trailer’s apparent depiction of a brand-new kind of redeploy balloon. According to EA’s official Season 17 update release, the balloon is a new Survival Item called an Evac Tower and is yellow rather than red. In the gameplay footage, it appears that Evac Towers self-destruct after use, potentially enabling players to flee quickly without worrying about being pursued. Evac Towers may be constructed just about anywhere outside.
But the new Apex Museum POI on World’s Edge was, of course, the trailer’s main attraction. The museum, which appears to exist for the purpose of displaying the history of the Apex Games (as well as selling a considerable quantity of legend-themed merchandise), is officially referred to as “Monument” on the game’s map. Naturally, the wicked CEO of Silva Pharmaceuticals and recent takeover of the Mercenary Syndicate, the entity in charge of both the Apex Games and the entirety of Syndicate Space, Torres “Duardo” Silva, built and sponsored the museum. Everything there is to know about the Games is covered in the museum’s exhibits, from the history of the Thunderdome Games to the biographies of every current competitor in the Apex Games, including details on their exact year of entry.
