The Season 17: Arsenal debut trailer for Apex Legends has been released by Respawn Entertainment. The Arsenal launch trailer picks up where the most recent Legends episode of Stories From The Outlands left off by revealing some shocking new information about the content of the upcoming season and giving players a glimpse at some of Ballistic’s skills.

The new teaser offers some fresh details on how Ballistic operates both on and off the battlefield. It is presented as a pre-recorded video message left behind for Nathaniel, Ballistic’s estranged son. After reprimanding his adult son for looking through his stuff, which ostensibly contained the video message, Ballistic tells Nathaniel that his motivations for stealing

Ballistic may be seen eliminating legends one by one as “Somewhere Beyond The Sea” plays in the background. He even defeats professional con artist Mirage in his own game of bamboozling. Despite his Apex Games title, Ballistic appears to put a lot of work into killing adversaries with style (and without breaking a sweat), thus his fighting strategies aren’t only about firepower and sheer force.

Ballistic’s official character profile describes him as an Assault-class legend, therefore his class-based powers—accessing Weapon Supply Bins and carrying extra ammunition—are known even if his talents are still unknown. But the Arsenal launch trailer gives us a little more information about how his legend-specific skills will function in the game. He seems to use a particular power at one point, causing Ash to appear to short-circuit while firing at him. It’s not clear if this power only applies to non-organic characters or if it has to do with the type of weapon Ash is using, but it seems to make her lose control of either her aim or the weapon itself.

Later, he is seen employing an ability that appears to eliminate a trio of foes in their whole while utilizing a device known as a “auto-loader,” according to on-screen text. Ballistic appears to be shooting blindly at three different enemies while also performing a backflip several dozen feet above the ground, which suggests he may have a skill that enhances his aim or otherwise increases the likelihood of actually hitting something in spray-and-pray situations. However, it’s unclear exactly what is going on in this scene.

Nathaniel receives an apology at the end of the trailer along with a firm warning to avoid searching through his father’s possessions. It’s difficult to image Ballistic’s son accepting his spot in the Apex Games being usurped with grace, and the teaser gives the impression this might not be the last time we see Ballistic’s adult son. Since Octane’s notoriously dishonest father, Torres “Duardo” Silva, is currently the “Big Bad” of the Apex Legends universe, the only thing barring Nathaniel from competing in the Games is a verbal commitment from him.

The gameplay trailer for Arsenal will be released on Monday, May 1 at 8 a.m. PDT/11 a.m. ET, and the new season will debut on Tuesday, May 9, at 10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. ET. This is the only thing the clip confirmed. However, Season 16 still has a ton of content left to offer. Apex’s brand-new Veiled Collection Event, which launched yesterday and will run through the start of Season 17, will provide players a twofold XP bonus to help them complete their Revelry battle pass.

On PC and console, Apex Legends is a free game to play. Apex Legends Mobile, the game’s mobile edition, is playable on Android and iOS devices but will be discontinued on May 1.
