God of War, one of Sony’s most successful franchises, underwent a major transformation in the year 2018. While changing the core premise of a franchise has often backfired, Santa Monica Studios has absolutely nailed the new God of War, which has received widespread acclaim from both fans and critics in equal measure. Following the success of God of War on the PlayStation, the game made its way to the PC, where it was able to replicate its success there as well. God of War Ragnarok is the sequel to the game that was announced with the release of the PlayStation 5, and it is scheduled to be released later this year after a lengthy delay.
Earlier today, Beau Anthony Jimenez, PlayStation’s Sound Designer, retweeted a tweet praising the game’s axe callback mechanic. The original tweet essentially summarizes a player’s reaction upon learning about the mechanic. Beau writes in the tweet that he’s looking forward to seeing how players react similarly when they see what they’ve been cooking in God of War Ragnarok. He continues by stating that “work has been a blast,” with the entire tweet implying that we may be getting a new mechanic akin to the axe throw from the previous game.
So excited for players to react similarly to what we’re cooking up on God of War: Ragnarök.
Suffice to say, work has been a blast😊 https://t.co/n1CWGjwdgq

Fans have already begun to speculate about what this mechanic will be in order to prepare for it. The most obvious possibility is that the same mechanism will be replicated in the Mjolnir, which would be the most obvious outcome. However, it is possible that the developers will want to do something unexpected for fans once more and will end up doing something completely different from what they had planned. With only a few months until the game’s release, we should be able to find out more information pretty quickly.
