Online speculations have been spreading for a solid week about the purportedly imminent Counter-Strike 2, which is said to be a new version of the well-known CS. It turns out that the mere existence of the game’s rumors was sufficient to restart the Steam servers.
Even for an online shooter, 11 years is a long period, and during that time, a ton of other, similarly good and undoubtedly nicer productions entered the market. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is already 11 years old. While Valve has had the Source 2 engine at its disposal for many years, the cult game CS:GO still uses the Source 1 engine.
Yet, the community has been searching for rumors and hints about the migration of Counter-Strike to a new engine, which would increase activity on the servers of the esports sensation, for many months. However, it turns out that Valve need not take any action, as CS:GO has already surpassed its previous record for popularity.
