Guerrilla Games released its own Decima Engine in 2013. It was on this technology that Killzone: Shadow Fall and Horizon Zero Dawn were created, but the tools are also used by external developers – Supermassive Games and Kojima Productions. For some time, the engine has been impressing with its possibilities, and developers from the Netherlands have big plans for their proposal.
Horizon Forbidden West or Death Stranding delighted many players due to excellent graphics. The refined faces and charming locations were made possible thanks to the Decima Engine, but Sony developers want to significantly develop the technology.
Michiel van der Leeuw, technical director at Guerrilla Games, mentioned the engine on LinkedIn – the studio has “ambitious plans” for Decima and the developers have drawn up “an ambitious studio roadmap and future direction for the Decima engine.”
This is certainly interesting considering that the technology that drives Aloy’s adventures can already provide an amazing experience, and there is no shortage of opinions according to which Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores offers brilliant graphics. However, we must remember that the engine was developed a decade ago and developers can conquer the players’ experience by improving Decima and drawing handfuls from the current generation console.
Pushsquare editors even suggest that more PlayStation teams may switch to Guerrilla Games technology to make their future projects offer a truly next-gen experience.
