Lightfall, Destiny 2‘s seventh major expansion, recently debuted, and as is nearly always the case with new Destiny releases, it proved to be a content-divisive item among the community. For instance, the addition of a new subclass with Strand was favorably accepted by gamers, but other elements of the experience, such as the new Guardians Rank and the difficulties older players had to progress, were criticized.
To its credit, Bungie has recently written a blog post in which it holds up its hands, admits some of Lightfall’s main problems, and provides information on how it intends to fix some of those problems.
With a substantial quantity of data now under our belts, it is evident that we fell short of several of our objectives and that changes based on helpful criticism were required, according to a statement from Bungie. We want to make the system better for all players even though the initial batch of Guardian Ranks has proven to be a great resource for New Lights.
Instead of concentrating only on a single season of content, Bungie claims it will be attempting to make Guardian Ranks valuable on a wider scale. Building shortcuts to renew ranks you’ve already attained more quickly will be a part of it.
“Players should be able to display their successes over the course of an entire season, and those who have already earned a Guardian Rank should be able to quickly renew it in the next season. Each season’s social signal should also represent something, according to Bungie.
To that aim, players’ visible rank will now reflect the rank they obtained for the previous season of content, at least until they obtain a new, higher rank for the currently running season. While other categories in the Guardian Rank progression won’t be reset, ranks can only be refreshed by finishing blue-tinted ones.
Additionally, according to Bungie, “Commendation numbers will be updated each season to reflect your interaction with the freshest content. Your Commendation score and breakdown will be monitored season to season, and rather than having your Commendation score reset, you will only lose a portion of it.
We need to keep tabs on your seasonal accomplishments as the year progresses. The Journey screen will get a new addition in Season 21 that will illustrate your recent seasonal history. The Guardian Ranks, Commendation score, Commendation breakdown, Seasonal Challenges, and Seasonal Triumph score will all be included.
The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC all support Destiny 2: Lightfall. Season of the Deep will follow and is anticipated to launch in May.
