Even during a time of significant upheaval for Activision Blizzard as a whole, there was never any doubt that Diablo 4 would be a huge economic success right out of the gate, and unsurprisingly, the action RPG has posted strong results in the days after its release. On June 2, it was made accessible in early access. On June 6, it received a full global release. Activision reports that within five days of the latter, the game had brought in over $666 million in revenue.
The box office equivalent of the biggest opening week of the year, it is Blizzard Entertainment’s biggest opening for a game to date in terms of both unit sales and dollar sales.
According to Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment, “We want to thank the millions of players around the world who are immersing themselves in Diablo 4” Diablo 4 is the product of our outstanding teams’ collaborative efforts to create and support genre-defining games, create legendary worlds, and evoke lifelong memories. We’re grateful for the support, proud of the team, and determined to keep listening to our players so that Diablo meets and exceeds players’ expectations for years to come.
Over 276 million hours of play time have now been documented by all players combined, and it is realistic to assume that this number will only rise over time. Several expansions are also planned over the coming years, with the first two currently in development. The already enormous game will start its seasonal content releases next month.
The PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC platforms all support Diablo 4.
