Recently, DICE announced the “end of journey” for the first Mirror’s Edge game as well as other classic Battlefield installments. Players will soon be unable to access the digital versions of some productions, and servers will be shut down at the end of the year.
Swedish game developer Electronic Arts intends to concentrate on the most recent shooters rather than reminisce about the past. Due to this, on April 2, digital distribution of Battlefield 28, Battlefield: Bad Company 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 1, and Mirror’s Edge will cease.
Players won’t be able to access these creations through, say, the PlayStation Store, so at a later time, physical editions of the games will be the only way to familiarize themselves with them.
The changes don’t stop there, though, as DICE is also getting ready to shut down the servers; on December 8, 2023, the network infrastructure for all of these games will be turned off.
Simply put, players won’t be able to join online chats or check leaderboards, but they will still be able to check the offline content, or play campaigns, in Battlefield Bad Company 1, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Mirror’s Edge.
The makers are open about the fact that each of these objects holds a special place in the studio’s heart, however for now they want to concentrate on new Battlefield games:
“While these titles hold a special place in our hearts, we can’t wait to create new memories with you by focusing on our current and future Battlefield experiences.“
