Even though Elden Ring gamers like the base game, many have been anticipating any prospective mods. After all, Dark Souls 3 saw thorough revisions like Cinders and The Convergence, which gave it fresh vitality. Elden Ring: The Convergence’s development was announced last month by the latter’s development team classes. Paul Gooch, the creative director, discussed the group’s current goals in an interview with VG247.
Although The Lands Between’s surroundings won’t be completely changed by the update, the development team hopes to “exploit the open world feature.” “We are considering having different beginning points for different classes, but I won’t commit to anything just yet. Our current intention is that there will be 10 or eleven starting classes, and after choosing one, the game will start with you on a little platform or building in an ethereal realm. There will then be a specific amount of altars on the platform that you can engage with, said Gooch.
The subclasses are these altars, then. For instance, there will be three altars if you start the game as a Warrior. One will be for the Dreadnought (weapon and shield concentrated), one for the Berserker (two-hand focus), and one for the Gladiator (power stance focused). Although Gooch says there will be “plenty of testing” while the game is being developed, the balance might be a problem.
Creating “choke-points” for the player, Margit, the Fell Omen from the basic game, or Ornstein and Smough from Dark Souls was another topic he discussed. The player ought to be able to create choke spots in some fashion. The major boss in the mountaintops can be fought before the one in Limgrave, but it won’t be simple.
The “ideal path,” which “will incorporate everything that favors that character,” will be unique to each starting class. They have access to every valued item during the whole playing if they stick to the path. By providing a lot of different options, we hope to keep both new players and experienced challenge runners interested. Each player takes a very different path through the game.
“I put myself in the position of a player who has decided to create a specific type of character and examine how that would be accomplished. Great if the game rewards my choices. However, if the game abandons me, I will forge alliances to support that playthrough. Over time, those bridges develop into highways of advancement and build a system without closed doors.
Elden Ring: The Convergence is undoubtedly a tremendously ambitious game, while not appearing to have undergone the complete overhaul that Dark Souls 3 did. There isn’t yet a release date, but development and planning are ongoing in order to accommodate any modifications, particularly if a new update is released. The efforts of Gooch and his crew are not hurried.
We have the advantage of time, in contrast to a game corporation, and we only do this because we love it. This enables us to complete projects and add to them in ways that game companies just cannot.
Watch this space for updates on the mod in the months and even years to come. For the time being, Elden Ring is accessible on the Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
