We just got to celebrate Mother’s Day, and now it’s Father’s Day! But time flies, doesn’t it? Another occasion to celebrate, which most of us have the pleasure of celebrating almost every year. Sometimes towards your loved ones, and sometimes being the hero of the occasion yourself. And although, of course, we can approach the subject in different ways – sometimes modestly and quietly, and sometimes grandly and with panache, every opportunity to smile is good.
And knowing the statistics of our portal and knowing that the lion’s share of users are men, I’m tempted to boldly say that we probably also have a lot of Dads here! On this occasion, I would like to wish you all the best ! So that your children will always be comforts and that you can pass on your best features and a wonderful hobby.
What’s more, to celebrate Father’s Day, today I’ve compiled a list of the ten most popular video games. Many of them have been created in recent years, but it only shows how good the emotional direction of video games is. Without further ado, let’s move on to the list. Let me just mention that not all fathers will be the biological ones. Sometimes you don’t have to be related by blood to care for someone .
Harry Mason (Silent Hill)
Let’s be honest, Harry is not a father figure like in Hollywood movies. He is a bit clumsy, scared and lost in the world around him. You’d get the impression that if you left him for ten seconds with the baby, he might lose it after five. However, when we see how much he can endure, what fears he can overcome and how much time he has to spend in a dark city to save his adopted daughter… That’s when his true strength comes out.
Kazuma Kiryu (Yakuza)
Another example of a hero who has the pleasure of taking care of his adopted daughter. There’s a lot more humor in the Yakuza series than in Silent Hill, and the relationship itself is presented on this looser side, but it still allows us to see what a wonderful and entertaining father Kiryu is. This is one of those who would easily dress up as a princess if their little princess needed a playmate.
Bowser (Mario)
If you know Bowser, you surely know Junior! In almost every production where we dealt with a wider range of characters from the Mario universe, the son of one of the main protagonists of the series also appeared. And it’s just a tiny version of a big monster. Nevertheless, he seems to be rather happy himself, which makes it clear that you can hate the whole world, but the child will always come first.
Lee (The Walking Dead)
Let’s go back for a moment to the example of adoptive fathers. This is also the case with Lee from the first part of The Walking Dead series from Telltale Games. The man very quickly takes care of young Clementine and raises her exactly as a father should during a zombie apocalypse. We know a similar example from another game, but we’ll get to that in a moment. In both cases, however, we can speak of complete devotion.
John Marston (Red Dead Redemption II)
In this case, however, we are dealing with the “head of the family” in all its glory. In fact, I could write a whole text about John’s case, because he approaches the task of taking care of his entire family and ensuring a dignified existence for his loved ones almost textbook. A brilliantly written character, but I feel like absolutely everything has already been said about him. Just play.
Ethan (Heavy Rain)
I remember my first encounter with Heavy Rain and how heavy the baggage of emotions was and how strong the game was in many emotional aspects. Even though I’m not a father myself, the story hit me really hard. We could get to know the almost depressive state of a man who, in a sense, lost his child. The closest person and someone he would give his life for. But what to write here, it is worth checking this title for yourself – the question remains whether he is a good father …
Joel (The Last of Us)
Literally last week we could celebrate the ten-year premiere of the first part of “The Last of Us“. And I think many people will agree that it was a brilliant game in many aspects, almost perfect. And one of the elements that contributed to such a reception of Naughty Dog’s production was outlining the relationship between the two main characters – Joel and Ellie. We had the pleasure of witnessing something that went from hostility to camaraderie to a father-daughter relationship.
Geralt (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt)
I know there will be people who will disagree with this statement. Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that we are not writing here about the best fathers in terms of their approach to their charges, but the most popular ones. And Geralt definitely is. And even if to a large extent his relationship with Ciri in the latest part of the adventures was almost platonic, we could still see how strong the bond between them blossomed.
Nathan Drake (Uncharted)
Here we are dealing with a very interesting example, because Nathan himself becomes a father only in the epilogue of the last fully-fledged part released so far. He already has a teenage daughter there and doesn’t really experience many adventures with her. Nevertheless, seeing their relationship and common interests, one can say with great certainty that the young heroine was brought up in a fantastic atmosphere.
Kratos (God of War)
And finally the one that had to be here. Probably 10 years ago, no one would have put him in such a list (and he was already a father in the first parts), but after the two latest productions from Santa Monica Studio, he became almost an icon of this topic. His relationship with Atreus, the whole evolution, and watching each other’s opinions and attitudes change, was an experience that went far beyond video games.
