Epic launched the next season of Fortnite and announced that over the next two weeks all the money it earns from in-game purchases will be donated to charities supporting humanitarian efforts in Ukraine, and now, just 24 hours later, with 13 days left, Epic has revealed that it has already raised $36 million.
In a recent blog statement, Epic explained its intent to donate all “real money” purchases made in Fortnite between March 20 through April 3, and according to the company’s statement, this includes purchases of V-Buck packs and cosmetic items sold for real money.
Epic says that proceeds from in-store purchases of V-Buck cards will also be included, but only for those redeemed in-game during the two-week window, while Microsoft will donate all proceeds made in the Xbox version of Fortnite for the next two weeks as well.
What is important is Epic’s assurance that it will donate the money you earn as quickly as possible and not wait for “actual money coming from partners” because this process can take a long time, instead, Epic will send the money to charities days after it is collected without any delay.
According to Epic, all funds earned will be donated to a select group of organizations, which include Direct Relief, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Children’s Fund, and the World Food Program.
