God of War Ragnarok will get a "semi-continuation"? The developers may have devised a shocking scheme

Developing large AAA games requires huge budgets, but at the same time, creating titles takes a really long time. However, Santa Monica Studio could have come up with the idea to offer players a smaller story that would, in its own way, continue the previously started threads.

The ending of God of War Ragnarok is very open-ended. The creators have several options for continuing the story, but Santa Monica Studio has still not confirmed whether it intends to develop this adventure.

ViewerAnon responded to the situation in its own way – an insider commented on an IGN article in which journalists mention “semi-continuations”. In the opinion of the editors, smaller stories may become standard in the face of long development of games.

According to the informant, this was the path that Santa Monica Studio was supposed to follow, but it has not yet decided whether it will offer a feature expansion or a “semi-continuation”.

IGN has a point here – this way you can shorten the gap between releases while still allowing inexperienced teams to work on a semi-sequel with established tools and support. Santa Monica Studio is working on new GOD OF WAR content and I wonder if it will be a DLC for RAGNAROK or a semi-sequel.

The standalone expansion or 'half-sequel' has been derided as glorified DLC, but as games take longer to develop, they could be the future of AAA game releases. https://t.co/d325Z0DCaB pic.twitter.com/yAOkgOn0jw

A smaller story similar to Uncharted The Lost Legacy may be an interesting option for developers who need, for example, 6 years to create a great adventure, and a smaller team will develop a “semi-continuation” in 2-3 years to provide players with additional attractions.

We haven’t received any announcements yet, but considering the circumstances, developers may really decide to make this move. Would you play God of War Ragnarok 1.5 while waiting for the full sequel?
