The creators of Rust were to be met today during the Game Developers Conference (GDC 2023), which runs through March 24. Regrettably, the group is in danger.
Members of the Facepunch Studios staff have recently received death and violent threats. Owing to this circumstance, the Rust developers decided to postpone the fan event that was scheduled for today at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2023.
“This is not an announcement we are happy to make. Due to the threats our employees have been subjected to, we have had to cancel the GDC meeting.
It’s important to remember that developers are ordinary people. When there is a threat, our priority is their safety,” wrote the Facepunch Studios team.
Such threats against game developers are regrettably “frequent,” according to Rust producer Alistair McFarlane. According to McFarlane, a number of game creators were forced to “alter their personal details” as a result of these acts. According to this developer, cheat authors who “go to considerable measures to harass members of the Facepunch team” are the most problematic subset of “antifans.”
