In a few days, Final Fantasy XVI, which is available only on the PS5, will be released. Yoshi-P, the game’s producer, has provided some information regarding the PC version. And yes, Final Fantasy 16 will eventually be released on the PC.
Yoshi-P recently said during a livestream that the development team planned to construct a PC version but was unable to finish it in time for launch.
Yoshi-P has already mentioned that the dev team wants to create a solid PC version, so the PC version won’t be released in less than six months.
The real cause of this PC latency is now pretty clear. In essence, it’s a combination of the Sony exclusive agreement, resources, labor, and time.
First of all, it is widely known that Sony and Square Enix have an agreement for this Final Fantasy game. Yoshi-P even asserted that Sony’s engineers had assisted the team with its creation. It seems sense that Sony would want this game to be a timed-exclusive on its system. Yes, Yoshi-P would never make such an admission during a webcast. You can’t expect him to utterly ruin his job in order to appease you.
The development team has dedicated all of its resources on the PS5 version since Sony and Square Enix signed this agreement. The team will turn their attention to the PC version after the console version is released.
I now understand why Yoshi-P’s remarks may have been misconstrued by certain people. His remarks are likely more about time restrictions than the PS5’s SSD’s super-duper-wow capabilities. In other words, I don’t think he’s saying that the PS5 SSD is to blame for the PC delay. It appears that the crew can only concentrate on one platform. And the PS5 is that system at the moment.
To put it simply, FF XVI is not available on PC at launch because the developers lack the resources or time necessary to create both the PC and PS5 versions. And Sony is only concentrating on PS5 since they have an agreement in place. And that’s okay as long as the PC version is released with the correct optimization!
