Pikmin devotees can now finally rejoice after years of hardship. In addition to showing off additional gameplay from the upcoming Pikmin 4 at yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo also unveiled and published HD versions of Pikmin 1 and 2 for the Switch. The remasters’ enhanced aesthetics are featured in a debut trailer that was also made available. The video is below.
The Wii release of Pikmin 1 and 2—which included the New Play Control improvements that let users use the Wii’s motion controls—is the basis for the Switch versions of those games. However, neither of the two games have updated graphics for the Wii, so fans of the series will be able to play the GameCube classics for the first time with modern graphics. Even though this markup isn’t as significant as, say, the gorgeous Metroid Prime Remastered, it’s still a noteworthy improvement.
Meanwhile, Nintendo announced a physical release for the HD remasters in the press release announcing Pikmin 1+2’s availability. Right now, both titles are accessible digitally on the eShop and can be bought separately or together. A physical release with both games will also be made available on September 22.
The eagerly anticipated Pikmin 4 debuts on July 21 as the following mainline entry in the series.
